Legal and Insurance Topics for Architects – First in a Series

WHAT: Every action we take as architects has legal & insurance implications. The way we respond has a direct and often dramatic impact on the Safety of all participants from the client, to the public passing by the job site, to the Project Team. This program will address the architect's construction contract administration services and provide attendees with the tools to educate Owners on the importance of having the architect provide Construction Administration (CA) services.

Attendees will have a chance to:

·        Review how the architect determines whether construction is proceeding according to the plans and specifications, including proper procedures for addressing problems that arise

·        Review case studies illustrating some common errors architectural firms make during CA Phase adversely affecting Public Welfare through architect error

·        Review Industry best practices for avoiding errors and managing such risks

·        Review best practices for preparing for and conducting site visits and for writing site visit reports

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS:

Christopher Poole is the president of Poole Professional Ltd. an insurance brokerage firm specializing in professional liability coverages. He has spoken around the country on professional liability issues and teaches at a number of colleges in the Boston area. Chris received his undergraduate degree in economics from Lake Forest College and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Kenneth B. Walton is a partner in the Boston and Hartford offices of Lewis Brisbois and a member of the Professional Liability, General Liability/Excess and Labor & Employment Practices. Ken focuses his trial practice in Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire and New York on the defense of employment, general liability and professional liability matters, including architects, engineers, surveyors, trucking companies, stockbrokers, lawyers, financial broker/dealers, directors and officers, insurance agents and real estate brokers.
