SESSION I – Enhance Your Understanding of ADA Accessibility Design Requirements
SPEAKER: Kathy Gips; Director of Training; New England ADA Center
The facility requirements for equal access to persons with disabilities are central to the work of all architects. The core of these requirements is in the ADA Standards for Accessible Design and the regulations of the Massachusetts Architectural Access Board.
This presentation will address who we are designing for and the reasons behind the specifications. We will look at common errors and omissions in protruding objects, slopes, railings, signage and assistive listening systems. We will review critical areas where the federal and state requirements differ: employee areas, alterations, vertical access, toilet rooms, ramps, technical infeasibility and variances, plus a few situations where the requirements conflict.
SESSION TWO - Expediting Your Plan Reviews
SPEAKER: Erik C. Wight, CBO, Senior Project Inspector/Plans Examiner, 4LEAF, Inc.
Learn to identify common building code omissions and pitfalls made on construction sites. The seminar will help your profitability and reduce time spent in the plan review process. Instructed by a seasoned plan reviewer who will demonstrate items typically required on your submittals.
